Is Antwerp worth visiting?

If you’re thinking about visiting Antwerp, but are not sure if it would be worth it? Then this is a must-read article for you! I’m showing you if Antwerp is really worth visiting and also giving you ideas how to fill your itinerary when you’re going for a long weekend!

Thursday

Arrive in Antwerp around noon and start with checking out the luxury shops that Antwerp has and after that take a walk on the Meir, which is Antwerp’s shopping street. Have lunch at the Palace on the Meir and get your chocolates at The Chocolate Line. The Chocolate Line is a chocolaterie that you can’t skip when you’re in Antwerp. They have AMAZING chocolates that you can’t even imagine.

After getting back to the hotel and exploring everything they have to offer (more about the hotel at the end of the article) you’re getting ready for your dinner reservation at The Jane. The Jane is a 2 star Michelin restaurant located in a chapel. Be prepared to stay here all night and enjoy every amazing dish and wine they prepare for you. Make sure to make your reservation way in advance, otherwise they will be fully booked!

Friday

You wake up completely relaxed, have breakfast and explore everything that the hotel has to offer. After that you’re grabbing a lunch at Horta, which is a lunchroom near the Meir. They have Champagne, oysters and pavlova (just saying).

You go to the Grote Markt, which is the beautiful square in Antwerp. It will take your breath away. You also take a look at De Kathedraal (which means The Cathedral). It’s a large cathedral with a lot to see. Beautiful!

In the evening you have dinner at Brasserie Appelmans. It’s decorated really nice. Their cuisine is simple, but really tasty! Next to the Brasserie Appelmans you have the Absinthbar, which is a cocktailbar located in the same space as the restaurant. You enjoy a cocktail or two before heading back to the hotel.

Saturday

After breakfast you go explore the Grote Markt and the little streets around it a little better, because there’s so much more to see. One of the things you still have to see is the medieval street called “Vlaaikensgang”. It’s tiny and incredibly romantic.

Then you walk to the Hendrik Conscienceplein to grab a bite to eat at Dorothy’s Tearoom. Many different kinds of coffee and cake to get. I got the apple pie and it has a top layer of caramel. Say no more! Delicious. Also very cutely decorated into The Wizard Of Oz style and there were Christmas decorations, which I love!

This evening should be reserved for luxury dining at “In de Balans”, which translates to In the Balance. Such a good place for luxury dining. We chose the six course surprise menu with pairing wines and added the choice of caviar and truffle. It was truly amazing!

On the last night you can choose to have a drink at the lovely hotelbar.

Sunday

Time to checkout today, unfortunately. You can fill this day as you please. We chose to have breakfast around 8:00, after that we started packing and headed over to the reception for checkout. We took a walk, had a cappuccino and after that we went home.

Are you thinking yes about Antwerp? Of course you do, because it’s such a beautiful city with amazing things to do, see and eat!
